Holley Nees

Holley Nees is a junior at The University of Texas at Austin. She will graduate with a Bachelor's in journalism with a focus in broadcast in December 2008. Holley hopes to enter the field of broadcast journalism as an anchor and reporter after graduation.

Nees hails from Lindale, a small east Texas town, 80 miles east of Dallas. She is a 2006, top-ten graduate of Lindale High School and the president of her senior class. Nees developed a passion for communications through her involvement in forensics in high school. She won the silver medal in Lincoln-Douglas (LD) debate and received the bronze in informative extemporaneous speaking. She was a member of the 3A UIL Academic Championship Team. She also competed at the national level in United States domestic extemporaneous speaking, and won the North-East Texas State Debate Tournament in LD.

Holley has anchored and filmed the live show for KVR News at Texas Student Television. She has also hosted and reported for Dispatch 40, a class produced radio show. Her stories have focused on a variety of topics from Austin city ordinances to U.S. military recruitment. Holley has followed reporters and filmed stand-ups at KLTV7 News, an ABC affiliate station in east Texas. She is also proficient in Adobe Audition 2.0.

As an emerging journalist, Nees is intrigued by the world of online journalism. She believes the field of communications is rapidly changing through the new medium of the Internet.

Nees was born February 3, 1989 to Kyle and Gretchen Nees, a pastor and an elementary school teacher. Her favorite memories are vacationing with her older sister, Kiley, and her younger brother, David. She enjoys running, skiing and playing the piano. Nees currently resides with her sister, a UT graduate, in Austin.
