I am a proud product of the public school system and grew up in South Austin. In the past few years I have written for the features department at the Daily Texan, the University of Texas at Austin’s student newspaper and have had many years of experience working in restaurants and cooking with catering companies. At the moment, I am researching, taking video and photos and writing in preparation to launch a blog on food, travel and environmental sustainability.
I feel that my multimedia journalism track is very promising and relevant to the drastic political and sociological changes this country is going through right now. I believe that to be a competent, accurate journalist is a noble pursuit and hopefully a valuable commodity in the coming years.
Outside of school, I love to read, travel and cook. I have been to Japan, main-land China, Hong Kong, Spain, Morocco, France, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, UK, Canada and Mexico in the past four years. With the exception of Asia and France, I paid my own way with saved money from a few jobs.
After completing my undergraduate studies, I plan to move to Paris and attend Le Cordon Bleu culinary school. Post-graduation, I would love to freelance for multiple food and lifestyle online publications in Europe and the US and research attitudes and waves in food culture.
