Fundamentals of multimedia journalism student, Amy Shekarchi, was born in San Antonio in 1987. As a child, she enjoyed writing and often wrote short stories and poems for her grandfather.
Education and Experience
In 2005, she attended New York University, where she wrote for her dormitory's monthly publication. In 2006, Amy returned to Texas and spent one semester at the University of Texas at San Antonio before transferring to UT Austin.
At the Austin campus, she began her studies in journalism, while working at the Recreational Sports Center on campus. Following a semester-long internship with Urban Home magazine in 2007, she joined the Cactus yearbook staff as a writer, a position she still holds.
the Future of Journalism
As a journalism student in the 21st century, Amy believes that the field is quickly moving into a new technological era. With the addition of new forms of communication, audiences are now able to access and influence the news in ways formerly unimaginable. She is optimistic about these changes and the endless possibilities multimedia journalism presents.
Goals and Interests
Currently, she is applying to medical school for entry in the fall of 2009 in hopes of attending the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Despite her aspirations to become a radiologist, she still wishes to write journalistically through medical school, and possibly after.
In her spare time, Amy runs, does yoga and enjoys spending time with friends and family!
