Amy Merrill

Amy Merrill

University of Texas at Austin, College of Communications Junior earning a B.A. in Multimedia Journalism

Amy Merrill was born in Washington, D.C. and raised just outside of the nation’s capitol in a suburb that she still calls home. She graduated from Thomas S. Wootton High School in 2005 and was the commencement speaker for her graduating class.

Amy’s close proximity to Washington allowed for her political interests and education to flourish. She worked as a Congressional Intern for Congressman Bob Filner (CA) gaining what she believed to be an ‘”invaluable experience for any young politician.”

Since attending the University of Texas-Austin and declaring herself a multimedia journalism major, she has worked for the Maryland based, non-profit organization TravelTelevision. As a key contributor to their Project Katrina Volunteers program, Amy enhanced the organization’s campaign to encourage Gulf Coast Region volunteers to utilize the Travel Television’s website. In addition to writing press releases for the Project Katrina Volunteers website, she also uploaded aired episodes to the site and distributed the episodes to local Gulf Coast news channels.

Amy has served as her sorority’s webmaster for two terms, running both the internal and external website for the organization.

Amy hopes that her interest in both journalism and politics will help lead her back to the Washington, D.C. area after she graduates in 2009. She hopes to combine her multimedia journalism background with her passion for politics to become an asset to a Washington lobbying firm in the area of telecommunication media. It is her goal to play a substantial legislative role aiding the multimedia industry.
